Spring Thaw 2010 is a weekend retreat for High School students April 16-18th on the Multnomah University Campus. We will be spending time worshiping together, learning about God, laughing, hanging out with friends, and doing all kinds of fun and crazy stuff.
It is being hosted by hundreds of college students and MU faculty/staff who love God and want your best. Because of that (and because we have some funds from a generous corporate grant) we think that this may be the best 44 hours of your Spring.
Feel free to check out this site to see if you believe us (start with our “Happenings“). We would love to have you join us.
Happenings

Portland’s own Josh White, will be leading us in worship during each of our main sessions throughout the weekend. Josh White led worship at “The Way” for years with his band Telecast, and has now started a church in SE Portland Oregon called “Door of Hope”. He has a couple of albums available on itunes including “The Beauty of Simplicity“, “Quiet Revolution” and “Eternity Is Now” . We’re excited to have him here with us.

Saturday afternoon is your chance to go to some optional Theology seminars and ask your deep theological questions. Meet and interact with some of our Multnomah professors who have spent years studying the scriptures and thinking about God. Dr. Brad Harper (author of Exploring Ecclesiology) and Dr. Ray Lubeck (author of Read the Bible for a Change) will be among some of our workshop leaders.

The year is 2010 and the Swine Flu has mutated and is turning the residents of Portland into Zombies. We have taken refuge on the Multnomah campus where we are formulating a plan to fight back. So far they have not found us, but there have been unconfirmed reports of recent incursions. Friday night, it’s you and your friends against 75 zombies. It all goes down after the city goes dark. Will you survive? Will you find the cure?

For one weekend only, we are creating the Pink Mist Lounge. It’s your own place to hang out, enjoy the cool lights, listen to local talent showcase their music (think Phoebe’s “Smelly Cat“), eat ice cream and snacks at PINKS, or give us your best Karaoke / American Idol impression. The Pink Mist Lounge also has free wireless and our local Starbucks . Come by and get “pinked”.

Friday night and Saturday afternoon is when you get to test your paintball skills against four or five of your friends. There will be a paintball simulation where 8 SWAT team members (with paintball guns) storm the “crack house” and take on 4 “drug dealers” armed with paintball guns that have barricaded themselves inside. With pop up targets and our very own “criminals”, we are certain to have some serious good times cleaning up the neighborhood of wrong doing. [Parental permission signature on registration form is required.]

We have the XBUS booked for the entire weekend! Imagine you and your 15 closest friends battling it out on 16 networked XBOX 360’s. Or perhaps your youth group wants to challenge a friend’s youth group. This is just one of several options available to you during free time and late night options. Come and challenge your friends and see who comes out on top.
We are flying in a very special speaker all the way from Manitoba Canada. His name is Kent Martens and he has been working as a youth pastor for more than 20 years. He is a guy who loves God and cares deeply for students. He is also a husband and father of four kids. We are really excited to have Kent speak at chapels because he is a guy who gets Christianity and wants to share that with us.
Before chapels we will also enjoy Tim and Ted’s Excellent pre-chapel comedy warm up routine featuring their special guest Jazzercise expert Kyle Higginbotham. You will want to be early for chapel!

Can you create a masterpiece with paint, or sketch something amazing? Or maybe your talent lies in photography or other creative outlets? Get out the brushes and zoom lens and get your creative juices flowing so you can be ready for your first gallery opening at Spring Thaw 2010. We will have a spot waiting for you.

On Saturday afternoon, we will have optional tournaments for those who want to run. From Dodge ball, to Volleyball, to Basketball. Do you have what it takes to win the prize?

The whole weekend will be one big long College Dorm sleep over. We will be eating in our new dining hall and sleeping in the dorms. There will be some good times and bed time might be a bit later than your used to.
